What is SBIT?
We want you to be safe and happy! One of the ways we strive to provide a proactive
and preventative approach to make sure you stay safe and happy is through our Student
Behavior Intervention Team (SBIT). The SBIT balances the individual needs of the student
with those of the greater College community to provide a safe campus environment and
foster an institutional culture for sharing information and developing plans of support
for students of concern through collaboration, risk assessment and intervention.
By formalizing an information sharing system, conducting threat assessments, and
intervening with students at risk, the SBIT aims to identify patterns of behavior
that indicate possible risk or threat to maximize early detection and engagement opportunities.
The SBIT does not replace the disciplinary process, classroom management, or public
safety response to incidents. The SBIT works within all College policies and coordinates
campus resources to help students achieve success.
You are encouraged to report concerns of unusual and/or threatening behavior to the
SBIT by submitting the SBIT referral form, even if you aren't experiencing a direct
threat or an immediate danger.
